Another Music Monday playlist for your headphones. This week, I’ve decided to share my TDE playlist. TDE is =/= to Black Hippy. Black Hippy consists of Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock. But TDE has recently expanded it’s roster signing rapper Isaiah Rashad and singer SZA – neither of which have a profile on Spotify. So this playlist will unfortunately include none of their music. But enjoy nonetheless. 9 hours of TDE, features and solo tracks, still sounds like a good Monday to me.
Also, as ScHoolboy Q preps for his third album Oxymoron, he’s released a visual to “Banger (MOSHPIT).” Still don’t know when the album is dropping, but he’s turned it in to the label. Check the video below.
As part of my revamp, I’m bringing back Music Mondays! Whoooop! I used to love compiling relevant playlists and sharing them. Personally, my Prince playlist was my favorite. But TONIGHT on VH1 at 8PM, “CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story” is premiering. A lot of people are skeptical, mainly because of the casting. But as a
former fan of TLC, I can’t wait to see this movie. They’ve been on a full promo run and if you remember their Behind the Music, some of this may be familiar information. But I’m ready!
I think the casting is dead-on and I can’t wait to see how much Drew Sidora, Keke Palmer, and Lil’ Mama embody the biggest-selling girl group EVER! In celebration, I’ve decided to share my Spotify playlist. Like I said, I’ve beeeen a fan, so I’ve had most of this playlist more than a year. It was just a snapshot of my favorites, but now I’ve included just about every song they’ve ever made. Also, below the playlist, you can listen to their new song “Meant to Be” below.
Will you be tuning in tonight?I know I will. Join me on Twitter @traysay8!
I’m starting a new feature. On Mondays, I will be featuring new artist submissions I receive via email. I will still do full artist profiles and interviews (see: Introducing…). These Music Mondays will be dedicated to a single artist and track with contact information and a little background.
So, for the first Music Monday, I present to you Nova. He’s a producer and a rapper making waves. His mixtape, “Innovation,” is available for download at JayJosh.com. He produced each track himself. Of the tracks submitted, my favorite was “Good Morning.” You can listen and download below.
He also has a popular track gaining attention called, “Twerk Sum.” To hear more from Nova, make sure you download the mixtape. You can also listen to more tracks over at Nova’s Hot New Hip Hop profile. What do you think??
With whispers about a possible reunion with EVERY member from Destiny’s Child and the release of a couple of new tracks, I have decided to dedicate today’s MUSIC MONDAY PLAYLIST to Destiny’s Child.
I won’t waste time spitting history, we all know everything there is to know about them by now. Listen to the playlist and download the new tracks below. Feel free to put it on shuffle. 🙂
They were truly a super group! To get four unreleased tracks from the group, from different eras in their history, click HERE.
Hope you enjoyed today’s Music Monday Playlist. See you next week.
Outkast has seemed to master the music business unparalleled by other artists. As a duo, they have maintained respect and longevity amongst their peers and fans alike. Andre 3000 and Big Boi have successfully teetered the line between exptreme pop stardom and street credibility. Their new music drops and albums are anticipated like few other artists in the game. They are able to release albums as a duo, solo albums as a double disc, individual projects, and weave in and out of guest features from a variety of artists. In anticipation of Big Boi’s new solo album, I dedicate today’s Music Monday to Outkast. I have included tracks from albums and features alike. Hope you enjoy.
Outkast has sold over 25 million albums & has won six Grammy awards. I am anxious to hear new music from Andre 3000 and from the group as a duo. Until then, make sure you cop Big Boi‘s new solo album when it drops, Sir Luscious Left Foot: Son of Chico Dusty. He promises at least two collaborations with his partner in crime, Andre 3000. The album is set to hit stores July 6, 2010.
Dame Dash has bee spreading the news that Roc-A-Fella Records will be back! Jay-Z sold the name and company and all rights to publish under the record label name. So Dame Dash has decided to resurrect it.
Dame told MTV News why he decided to resurrect the label. Peep the story below.
“I think we just having fun, really,” said Dash, sitting in his office at DD172 next to Curren$y. “[Curren$y] inspired me to dust off the chains. We brought ’em out for kicks, just ’cause we could. Then we was like, ‘F— it, let’s put it out through Roc-A-Fella.’ It was really more something he wanted to do. Basically, ’cause we havin’ such a good time, and the opportunity’s there, we was like, ‘Why not?’ “
“What that means, what that shows me, is that dude thinks as highly of me as I do him,” Curren$y said about releasing an LP on the label Dash co-founded with Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke in the mid-1990s. “I know what’s behind that. We all know and the fans know what that represented at the height of it. The aesthetic of it.”
Dash said he hadn’t been having “fun” in music since he, Jay and Biggs dissolved their partnership several years ago. But meeting and working with artists such as Curren$y and Jay Electronica who come through his DD172 facility brought the old feelings back.
“The funny thing is, people don’t know that Roc-A-Fella wasn’t meant to sell records,” Dame said. “It was meant to show the respect and the honor amongst each other as friends. It was a friendship thing. That’s what people liked. It’s what made Roc-A-Fella appealing. It’s odd, because I f— with [Curren$y]. I kinda like him. When I met him, I wasn’t as familiar with his music. My nephews and Sean O’Connell put me up on him. I liked him as a friend. Then I start seeing he’s super nice with the rhymes, then I started seeing his influence. It’s similar to the way we felt back in those days. It’s working out.”
The last album to come out on Roc-A-Fella was Jadakiss’ The Last Kiss in April 2009. The label had been under Jay-Z’s sole custody since the breakup of Hov, Biggs and Dash.
“Def Jam or Universal bought the brand. I think the ‘beef’ [with us and Jay-Z] was that Jay made it clear he didn’t want me or Biggs to be a part of it. That’s really where it was at. Now that he doesn’t work for Def Jam anymore, he doesn’t have the right to use the name. So there’s no reason for us not to use it. It’s there, and it’s a brand that’s not being used. So I was like, ‘I’ll take it.’ It always meant something to me.”
Dash said he and Curren$y are pushing a positive message about friendship and evolution.
“It’s a way more positive movement,” he added about the label’s new incarnation. “It’s what I wanted Roc-A-Fella, what I thought it should be 10 years after I started it.”
Dash said he secured the new deal through L.A. Reid and Def Jam, which will serve as a distributor for his records.
Well there you have it. There was a picture floating around the ‘net with Curren$y rocking a Roc-A-Fella chain which raised a few eyebrows. I could see this being a good fit, but I wonder how Jay feels about it. Especially with Def Jam setting up that distribution deal…
Since I missed my Music Monday Playlist, here a few of my favorite tracks from the Roc-A-Fella hayday. Enjoy.
If you know me, you know I have a soft spot for Prince. As an artist and musician, there are few that compare. His flamboyant fashion statements yet uber calm demeanor has been appealing to men and women. Prince‘s artistic ear and musical abilities compare to few. And it doesn’t hurt he keeps a fine woman on his arm.
Prince shares his falsetto all over more that 30 albums and was listed as #28 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. It’s understandable after more than 30 Top 40 songs. Not many other artists can say that.
So I have decided to dedicate this week’s Music Monday Playlist to Prince. I hope those that are already fans enjoy it. And those people that aren’t, find something they like. I’ve mixed old and new, dusty and well-known. His influence on Justin Timberlake, The Dream, Usher, and many more is quite apparent. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, listen below. Enjoy. 🙂
Many of his songs can be added to your “Bedroom Boom” playlists… #imjustsayin
Here’s the download link to 4 of my favorite tracks from the playlist.
“Adore” just may be my favorite Prince song. Let me know if I’ve left off some of your favorites.
