TV WORLD: Black Girls Rock on BET

The 5th Annual Black Girls Rock Awards Show aired on BET last night. This is the first time the show has been taped and televised.  To say it was great is an understatement. The celebrating famous and not-so-famous women equally and featured one of the best award show performances I have seen in my entire life. And the stunning Nia Long served as the hostess. I’ve compiled all the performances for your watching pleasure.

First, Miss Keri Baby singing “Breaking Point.”

I feel like Keri Hilson completely killed this performance vocally speaking. I had to question whether she was lip synching initially. I’m the biggest Keri Hilson fan, so I was proud she did so well. And the blond bob is working!!

Next up, Miss Jill Scott singing “Golden.”

She looked and sounded great, but I expected nothing different.

Keyshia Cole showed up for some reason and performed “I Remember.”

Still curious as to why she was there performing such an old song. Especially looking the mess that she did.

Keyshia’s girl Monica showed up and showed out performing “Still Standing.”

She looked and sounded great, as usual. But that rock on her hand stole the show.

VVBrown from the UK came out to perform her single “Shark in the Water.”

Guess she forgot to remove the roller from her bang, but she sounded great.

Finally, the hands down BEST performance of the night featured Kelly Price, Marsha Ambrosius, Jill Scott and Ledisi singing Nina Simone‘s “Four Women.” The song is also featured on the For Colored Girls soundtrack.

That performance gave me chills. I re-watched it immediately after it ended. It felt so passionate. If you listen to what the women sing, it’s almost as if they are telling their own stories. Amazing!!!

This was a wonderful program BET aired and I hope to see more like it in the future. It’s always nice to have a balance of ignorant and uplifting programming. Good job BET.
