Got some new music to share…
First one of my favorite artists, Erykah Badu, will be releasing her new album New Amerykah Part 2 (Return of the Ankh) February 23, 2010.
She has decided to leak a viral video and track for the bonus song “Jump Up in the Air and Stay There” featuring Bilal and Lil Wayne. It was rumored to have been released on her official website, but I can’t find it. 😦
Jump Up in the Air and Stay There f. Bilal and Lil Wayne
The new album will feature production from 9th Wonder & J Dilla among others. I am personally quite excited.
Because of Twitter, I feel like Wale is like my friend in real life… maybe that’s sad. Either way, I fux with his “Bedrock Freestyle.” So, I decided to give his “Oh Let’s Do It” freestyle a chance too.
Yup, I like this one too. What do you think? I feel like people are gonna sleep on Wale unless he freestyles over the more popular beats. I guess it kinda worked for Lil Wayne too…
Sade’s new albume Soldier of Love leaked this week. Honestly, it probably won’t affect her album sales. She simultaneously released three new singles. The three singles she released as well as link for the entire album are below.
“The Moon & the Sky” (personal fave)
I can’t even front, I downloaded the whole album. But I haven’t really been able to listen to it in it’s entirety as I like to listen to music in my car.
Finally, just as a topic of discussing, as I was listening to Jay-Z‘s verse on Snoop Dogg‘s “I Wanna Rock Remix,” I feel like he references being better than the Notorious B.I.G.
I get the job done, I put the cane down Its no Biggie, huh, I’m just the king now!
Can he say that??
My homo/interacial crush is and always will be Scarlett Johansson. I love the way she talks, the roles she chooses to play, and her classic body shape. It reminds me of ancient Roman sculptures… *smiling looking to the sky*
Anywho, she is the spokesperson for Mango for their Spring 2010 collection and posed for some hot pics.
These photos were shot by Mario Sorrenti and the color choices are hypnotizing. I dirty snatched these pics from Nitrolicious. Thanks 🙂
Kelis was out at the Data Awards in Hollywood this week and decided to put this outfit together.
I know the divorce from Nas and the whole child support fiasco may be enough to stress a sister out, but not to the point of fashion insanity.
Apparently the shoes, a major fail, are Alexander McQueen who I normally love. But no dice. The whole look is a hot mess.
One of my fave bloggers, Nicole Bitchie, got her hands on a video of Kelis performing in this getup… wow to say the least!
Peep the video over at NecoleBitchie.com
Amber Rose is still working hard to make a name for herself, most importantly as a legitimate model. I’m not even mad at her. Peep some recent pics from a photoshoot with Austin Powers.
Work it out then bish!
Today, Janurary 29, 2010, is Ms. Oprah Winfrey’s 59th birthday!
She’s celebrating with a live studio audience who all share the same day of birth.
- All of Oprah’s luxurious locks are hers, no pieces or wigs
- The name on her birth certificate is actually Orpah
- She gave birth to a baby boy when she was 14, but he sadly dies from premature birth
- She is the first Black PERSON to be included on Forbes’ billionaire list in 2003
- Her middle name, Gail, is phonetically the same name of her best friend Gayle King
- Owns a 42-acre compound nicknamed “The Promised Land” in Montecito, California
Last night, President Barack Obama presented his first State of the Union speech to a joint session of Congress. Upon first glance, most viewers noticed the plethora of color in the audience. This speech was highly anticipated as President Obama’s satisfaction ratings have continued to decrease since his inauguration.
I did not have the privelage of watching live, so instead I caught the video online today. If you weren’t able to watch it live either, watch Parts 1 & 2 of the video below. You will notice he’s looking a little grayer along the temples.
For those without a full hour of time, I will provide some breif cliff notes.
Of course the economy was the major focus. Some of his major points were:
– Fees to the larger banks to recurr the costs associated with the bank bailout.
– More support and tax breaks for small bussiness including the removal of capital tax gains
– Major increase in jobs through clean energy facilities, technological advancements, and infrastructure improvements
– Student loan debt forgiveness after 20 years, 10 years if you are a public servant
– Revitalization of community colleges, increase in Pell Grants, and $10,000 tax credit to parents with college students
– Childhood obesity greatly reduced
– Eliminate ineffective and expensive government programs
– Lobbyists must reveal every contact they make
– Rebates to homeowners who create more energy efficient homes
Whew! He had a lot of goals which I hope are all realized despite the difficulties he has experienced with Congress. I would especially appreciate the student loan program… I’m sure most Americans would!
*In a shallow point, the First Lady, Michelle Obama, looked absolutely regal and i loved when she instructed everyone to sit down.*
Catch more of the breakdown over at CNN.
Before I go in on the State of the Union Address President Barack Obama delivered yesterday, I first want to discuss some more local political action.
In an interesting move, The City of Chicago’s Special Events office or whatever has decided to eliminate the annual 3rd of July Fireworks display at the Taste of Chicago in Grant Park. It is the the 30th anniversary for the Taste of Chicago.
There will instead be synchronized fireworks displays on the north lakefront, Navy Pier, and the south lakefront (rumored to be somewhere around 63rd). The locations of these fireworks displays seems awfully strategic. The city claims the adjustment in locale will save the city between $1 and $2 million dollars. But, they are sacrificing and Chicago tradition.
Many points on both sides of the argument can be made.
For the change in fireworks tradition would be the money saving possibilities, the violence and deaths associated with the fireworks display, and encouraging residents to celebrate in their own neighborhoods.
On the opposite side of things, this change ruins an annual tradition for the City of Chicago, segregates the population of the city, and forces more people to crowd into smaller areas along the lake to watch the “synchronized” show.
Even as a long time resident of the north Chicagoland area, I still find it quite polarizing to eliminate a Chicago tradition and instead place strategic fireworks displays in specific neighborhoods. Yes, the violence was an issue on the 3rd of July, but moving the crowd will probably do very little to change that.
What are your thoughts??
